Frequently asked questions

What is an ISO country code?

An ISO country code is the standard short code that identifies a country in the ISO 3166-1 standard. Each country has three: a 2-letter code (alpha-2, e.g. IN), a 3-letter code (alpha-3, e.g. IND) and a 3-digit numeric code (e.g. 356). This country codes list shows all three side by side.

What is the difference between alpha-2, alpha-3 and numeric country codes?

Alpha-2 is a 2-letter code used in domains and locales (US, GB, IN); alpha-3 is a 3-letter code often used in databases and finance (USA, GBR, IND); and the numeric code is a 3-digit number that is language-independent (840, 826, 356). All three identify the same country under ISO 3166-1.

How do I find a country's phone dialing code?

Type the country name in the search box and read its dial code column — for example India is +91, the United States and Canada are +1, and the United Kingdom is +44. You can also search by the code itself (e.g. type 44) to see which country it belongs to.

Is this country codes list free to use?

Yes — the all country codes tool is completely free with no sign-up. The full ISO 3166-1 list runs in your browser from a built-in dataset, so there are no limits, no API keys and nothing is uploaded.

Can I copy a country code quickly?

Yes. Tap any alpha-2, alpha-3, numeric or dial code in the table and it is copied straight to your clipboard, so you can paste it into a form, spreadsheet or code.

How many countries are in the ISO 3166-1 list?

This list covers all 249 officially assigned ISO 3166-1 country and territory codes, including dependent territories. Use the region filter to browse them by continent or the search box to jump to one instantly.

Is the country codes data sent to a server?

No. The entire country codes list, search and filtering run locally in your browser from a bundled static dataset — nothing you type is sent anywhere, and the tool works even offline once loaded.

What is the country code for India, the USA or the UK?

India's ISO codes are IN / IND / 356 with dialing code +91; the United States is US / USA / 840 with +1; and the United Kingdom is GB / GBR / 826 with +44. Search any country name to see all four values side by side.

Where are country codes used?

Alpha-2 codes appear in domain names (.in, .uk), locales and flags; alpha-3 codes are common in databases, banking and sports; numeric codes are used where a language-independent number is needed; and dialing codes are used to place international calls.
