Bird / Parrot Age Calculator

Your bird's age on a human-equivalent scale, by species.

A free bird and parrot age calculator that estimates a human-equivalent age using the proportional-lifespan method — how far through your bird's species-typical lifespan they are, scaled against an average human lifespan. Covers budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds, conures, African greys, Amazon parrots, cockatoos and macaws, since pet-bird lifespans range from under 10 years to 50-60+ years. Runs fully in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my bird's age in human years?

Pick your bird's species and enter their age in years and months. Since bird lifespans vary hugely by species (a budgie lives around 8 years, a macaw can live 50-60), this calculator works out what fraction of your bird's species-typical lifespan they've lived, then scales that against an average human lifespan of 80 years.

Why isn't there one "bird years to human years" formula like dogs or cats?

Because pet-bird lifespans differ enormously by species — a small budgie or cockatiel might live under 10 years, while large parrots like African greys, Amazons, cockatoos and macaws commonly live 40-60+ years. A single flat multiplier would be wildly wrong for most species, so this calculator uses each species' own typical lifespan instead.

What species does this bird age calculator support?

Budgerigar/parakeet, cockatiel, lovebird, conure, African grey parrot, Amazon parrot, cockatoo and macaw — covering the most commonly kept pet birds, each with its own typical lifespan and maturity age.

What is considered a "senior" parrot?

It depends heavily on species — a budgie may be senior by 5-6 years, while a large parrot like an African grey or macaw might not be considered senior until well into its 30s or 40s. The result card shows your bird's life stage based on how far through its species-typical lifespan it is.

How accurate is this bird age calculator?

It uses the proportional-lifespan method — the standard approach for estimating avian human-equivalent age — based on published typical lifespans for each species. Because individual birds' lifespans vary with diet, environment and genetics, treat the result as a helpful estimate rather than an exact figure.

Is this bird age calculator free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no app to install and no data uploaded. Everything runs instantly in your browser.
