What counts as “broken”?

Any link whose final response is HTTP 4xx or 5xx, or that times out / can't be reached at all. Links that redirect to a working page are reported as OK with a redirect marker.

Does it check external links too?

Yes — the Broken Link Checker checks both internal and external links. If you only want one set, use the Internal or External Link Checker.

Why is a link reported as an error?

The server didn't respond in time, the host couldn't be resolved, or it refused our request. Some sites block automated HEAD requests; we retry with GET, but a few may still block bots.
