How to use Calories Burned Calculator

  1. Pick your activity

Choose from walking, running, cycling, gym workouts, sports and daily chores — each carries a research-based MET intensity value.

  4. Read the calories

See the total calories burned, plus per-minute and per-hour rates so you can compare activities.

Use it to balance calories in and out, hit a deficit for weight loss, or pick the most efficient exercise for your time.

Frequently asked questions

How are calories burned calculated?

Using the MET (Metabolic Equivalent) method: calories per minute = MET × 3.5 × your weight in kg ÷ 200, multiplied by how long you exercised. Each activity has a MET value reflecting its intensity.

Why does body weight matter?

Moving a heavier body takes more energy, so a person who weighs more burns more calories doing the same activity for the same time. That's why weight is a key input.

Which activity burns the most calories?

High-intensity activities with the highest MET values — running fast, jumping rope and HIIT — burn the most per minute. For total burn, combine a high MET with a longer duration.

How accurate is this estimate?

It's a solid ballpark based on published MET values, usually within 10–15% for most people. Individual fitness, effort level and metabolism cause real burn to vary.

How many calories does walking or running burn?

It depends on your weight, pace and time — as a rough guide, a 70 kg person burns roughly 4–5 calories a minute walking briskly and 10–13 running. Enter your weight, the activity and duration here for a personalised MET-based estimate.

Do calories burned count toward my daily deficit?

Yes — exercise calories add to your total daily burn (TDEE), so burning more lets you eat a little more at the same deficit. Be careful not to double-count if your calorie calculator's activity level already includes that exercise.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing you enter is uploaded or saved.
