Test, train and master your typing speed.

Free typing speed test from Web Utilitz: check WPM & accuracy with English & Hindi modes, SSC/CPCT exam practice, dictation and live stats in your browser.

Why Web Utilitz

Time Attack

Race the clock. The text buffer keeps extending, so you type non-stop until the timer hits zero.

Word Sprint

Fixed sets of 10, 25 or 50 words. Finish the batch and lock in a clean, comparable score.

Quote

Type a famous line with no timer running — just find your rhythm and flow.

Subject

Real passages across Technology, Science, Physics, Programming, Business and more.

Story

Fables, tales and biographies split into long-form passages for endurance practice.

Exam

Official SSC-CGL, CPCT, RRB & IBPS scoring — with a strict no-backspace mode.

Dictation

Hear the passage read aloud and type what you catch — word-by-word or in full flow.

Weak Keys

We track the letters you fumble most and build a custom drill to iron them out.

Shlok · Bhakti

Type sacred shlokas & mantras — Ram, Krishna, Shiv, Hanuman and more — with the अर्थ shown as you go, plus a non-stop जप लूप.

How it works

  1. Pick a mode & duration

Choose Time Attack, Word Sprint, Quote, Story or Exam mode and set your timer (15–120s) or word count.

  2. Start typing

Begin typing the on-screen text — the timer starts on your first keystroke, so there is no separate start click.

  3. Watch your live stats

See WPM, accuracy and consistency update in real time as you type, with every mistake highlighted instantly.

  4. Review & retry

Get a detailed result with your final WPM and accuracy, then retry to beat your score or switch modes.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good typing speed (WPM)?

The average typist manages about 38–40 words per minute. Anything above 50 WPM is solid, 65–75 WPM is professional, and 80+ WPM is fast. The test shows your live WPM so you always know where you stand.

How is WPM (words per minute) calculated?

A “word” is standardised as 5 characters, so WPM = (characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes, adjusted for accuracy. This is the same formula used by every major typing test, so your score is comparable anywhere.

Is this typing speed test free?

Yes — it is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is no sign-up, no download and no limit on how many tests you can take.

How can I improve my typing speed?

Practise a few minutes daily, keep your fingers on the home row, look at the screen instead of the keyboard, and prioritise accuracy first — speed follows. Word Sprint and Story modes are great for building endurance.

Does it support Hindi typing?

Yes. Hindi runs on the built-in InScript layout — the Government of India standard — with full Devanagari support, so there is nothing to install on your operating system.

Can I practise for SSC, CPCT and other typing exams?

Yes. Exam mode scores your passage the way recruitment boards actually do (SSC-CGL, CPCT, RRB, IBPS), including a strict no-backspace option, so your practice mirrors the real exam.

How long is the typing test?

You choose. Run a quick 1-minute (60-second) test, a 15-second sprint, longer timed sessions up to 120 seconds, or fixed sets of 10, 25 or 50 words.
