How it works
Pick an instrument

Choose a real photo style
The Harp, Kalimba and Drum Kit each have 4-5 real photographed styles — open Settings and pick the look you like before you start playing.
Play with keyboard or touch
Use your computer keyboard's letter keys, or tap/drag straight on a touchscreen — both are wired to the same real samples.
Pick a backing beat
Choose one of 5 backing-beat styles — lo-fi, trap, rock, house or reggaeton — hit Play, and perform along on top of it.
Adjust the settings
Toggle key/note labels on or off, and switch between a light or dark theme.
Record & download
Hit Record, play your piece, then stop — you get an instant playback bar and a one-tap download, no upload involved.
Frequently asked questions
Are these virtual instruments really free?
Yes — the Virtual Piano, Harp, Kalimba and Drum Kit are 100% free with no sign-up, no download and no usage limit. Everything runs in your browser.
Do they sound like a real instrument, or a synthesiser?
They use real recorded instrument samples — a genuine grand piano, orchestral harp, kalimba, and an acoustic Linndrum drum kit — not a synthesised tone, so the sound is far closer to the real thing than a typical beep-style online piano.
Can I change how the harp, kalimba and drum kit look?
Yes — each one has multiple real, photographed styles you can switch between in Settings: 4 for the Virtual Harp (Concert Grand, Rosewood Gold, Ivory Cherub, Sketch), 4 for the Virtual Kalimba (Ebony Gold, Rosewood Carved, Ivory Filigree, Sketch) and 5 for the Virtual Drum Kit. Every style is a real photo, not a cartoon or 3D render, with an invisible touch zone lined up over its real strings, tines or pads.
What backing beats can I play along with?
Five original, fully synthesised backing-beat loops — Lo-fi Chill, Trap, Rock Beat, EDM House and Reggaeton — available on every instrument. Pick one, hit Play, and perform over the top of it. They're all built from scratch, not real recordings, so there's no copyright issue.
Do the drum pads respond to how hard I hit them?
Yes — the Virtual Drum Kit is velocity-sensitive. On a device with real pressure support (a stylus or pressure-sensitive touchscreen), a harder tap plays louder. On a regular touchscreen or mouse, each hit is subtly varied so it doesn't sound robotic. Supported phones also add a short vibration on every hit.
What's the ambience sound on the harp and kalimba?
The Virtual Harp and Virtual Kalimba both have an optional Rain or Ocean Waves ambience sound you can turn on for a calmer, more atmospheric playing session — it plays quietly underneath the instrument itself.
Do they work on mobile and touchscreens?
Yes. Every instrument is fully playable by tapping (and, for the harp and kalimba, dragging across strings/tines), and the layout is responsive down to small phone screens.
Can I record my playing?
Yes — hit the Record button, play, then stop. You'll get an instant in-page playback bar and a direct download link. Nothing is uploaded to a server; the recording stays entirely on your device.
What keys do I press on my keyboard?
The Virtual Piano uses the familiar A S D F G H J K L row for white keys and W E T Y U for black keys, the same convention used by most online pianos — turn on key labels in Settings to see them all. The Drum Kit and Kalimba are also keyboard-playable, though their real-photo styles don't print the keys on screen. The Harp is touch-and-drag only, played directly on the real photo.
Do I need a MIDI keyboard or any extra hardware?
No. Your computer keyboard or a touchscreen is all you need — no MIDI device, no plugin, no app install.
Which browsers are supported?
Any modern browser with Web Audio support — Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on both desktop and mobile. Recording needs a browser that supports MediaRecorder (all major browsers do).
Can I turn off the key labels?
Yes — open Settings on the Virtual Piano and toggle "Show note / key labels" off for a clean, distraction-free view, which is especially handy on a touchscreen.
