Food Product Barcode Scanner

Scan a product barcode with your camera and see its nutrition facts.

Point your camera at any product's barcode (EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128 and more) and instantly see its nutrition facts — calories, fat, sugar, salt, protein, ingredients, allergens, Nutri-Score and NOVA processing grade — pulled live from the free, crowd-sourced Open Food Facts database. No camera? Type the barcode digits in by hand or upload a photo instead. Runs fully in your browser — the image is decoded locally and only the barcode number is looked up.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my scan history stored?

Only in this browser's local storage — it's never sent anywhere. Clearing it, using a different browser or device, or a private/incognito window all start you with an empty history.

Where does the nutrition data come from?

Open Food Facts — a free, non-profit, crowd-sourced database (like a 'Wikipedia for food products') that anyone can contribute to. Coverage is excellent for common supermarket products but can be thinner for very new, regional or private-label items.

Why can't it find my product?

Open Food Facts is community-contributed, so a brand-new, very local, or niche product might not be in the database yet. Try a clearer photo, double-check the digits if you typed it manually, or the product may simply not be listed.

Is my camera feed uploaded anywhere?

No — barcode decoding happens entirely in your browser using an on-device library. Only the decoded barcode NUMBER (not any image or video) is sent to Open Food Facts to look up the product.

What barcode formats does it support?

EAN-13 and EAN-8 (the standard worldwide retail formats), UPC-A and UPC-E (common in the US/Canada), Code 128 and ITF — covering virtually every packaged food product barcode.

Why does it need camera permission?

Live scanning reads frames from your camera to detect the barcode pattern. If you'd rather not grant camera access, use the manual entry field or upload a photo instead.

Is this free, and does it need an app?

Yes — completely free, no sign-up, no app to install. It runs entirely in your mobile or desktop browser.
