How to use Pomodoro Timer

  1. Start a focus session

Press Start to begin a 25-minute focus sprint. Give the task your full attention until the timer runs out and the ring empties.

  2. Take a short break

When the focus session ends you'll hear a chime and a 5-minute short break begins (automatically, if auto-start is on) so you can rest and reset.

  3. Repeat the cycle

Alternate focus sessions and short breaks. The round dots fill up to show how close you are to earning a longer break.

  4. Enjoy a long break

After every four focus sessions the timer switches to a longer 15-minute break to help you recharge before the next cycle.

  5. Make it yours

Open Settings to change the focus and break lengths, set how often the long break appears, and toggle auto-start — your preferences are saved automatically.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time-management method created by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. You work in focused 25-minute intervals called 'pomodoros', each followed by a 5-minute short break, and after four pomodoros you take a longer 15–30 minute break. Working in short, timed sprints helps you concentrate, avoid burnout and make steady progress on big tasks.

How long is a Pomodoro and its breaks?

By default a focus session is 25 minutes, a short break is 5 minutes, and a long break (after every four focus sessions) is 15 minutes. All of these are fully adjustable in Settings, along with how many focus sessions come before each long break, so you can tailor the rhythm to how you work best.

Do sessions start automatically?

You can choose. By default, breaks auto-start after a focus session so you don't have to touch anything, while the next focus session waits for you to press Start. You can turn auto-start on or off for both breaks and focus sessions in Settings — whichever keeps you in flow.

Does the Pomodoro timer keep time if I change tabs?

Yes. Each session counts down toward a fixed target time and schedules its chime for that exact moment, so it stays accurate and still alerts you when you're working in another tab or app. The browser tab title also shows the live countdown, and when you return the display immediately shows the correct time left.

Are my settings and progress saved?

Your custom durations, long-break interval, auto-start choices and completed-pomodoro count are saved locally in your browser, so they're remembered the next time you open the tool. Nothing is sent to a server — clearing your browser storage resets them.

Is the Pomodoro timer free and private?

Completely. It's free with no sign-up and no limits, and it runs entirely in your browser — nothing about your sessions is uploaded. It works full-screen on any phone, tablet or computer, so you can focus anywhere.
