Frequently asked questions
What is a rhyming dictionary / rhyme finder?
A rhyme finder (or rhyming dictionary) takes a word and returns other words that rhyme with it — perfect rhymes that match exactly, and near/slant rhymes that almost match. It's a staple tool for songwriters, rappers, poets and crossword solvers.
How do I find words that rhyme with my word?
Type your word into the search box, make sure "Perfect rhymes" mode is selected, and click Find words. You'll get a ranked list of rhyming words, each with its syllable count.
What's the difference between perfect rhymes and near rhymes?
Perfect rhymes share the exact same ending sound (cat/hat/mat). Near rhymes (also called slant or half rhymes) sound similar but not identical (love/move, heart/hurt) — commonly used in modern songwriting and rap for a subtler effect.
What is a word association tool used for?
The "Also try (associations)" mode returns words that are statistically likely to appear alongside your search word in real writing — great for brainstorming, overcoming writer's block, or exploring a topic from new angles.
How is this different from a thesaurus?
A thesaurus gives synonyms — words with the same meaning. This tool's "Related meaning" mode does something similar, but it also offers modes a thesaurus doesn't have: perfect/near rhymes and sound-alike matches, which are about how a word sounds, not just what it means.
Can I use this for songwriting and rap lyrics?
Yes — it's built for exactly that. Search your key word, browse perfect and near rhymes ranked by strength, check syllable counts to fit your rhythm, and use the associations mode when you're stuck for the next line.
Is this rhyme finder free to use?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up, no API key and no daily limit.
What does the syllable count next to each word mean?
It shows how many syllables that word has, which is useful for matching rhythm and meter in poetry, songwriting and rap — a word can rhyme perfectly but still throw off your line if the syllable count doesn't fit.
Why does a word show no results in some modes?
Rare, made-up or highly technical words may not have enough data for every mode (especially Near rhymes or Sounds like). Try Perfect rhymes or Related meaning instead, or check the spelling.
Does this tool work on mobile?
Yes, it's fully responsive and works identically on phones, tablets and desktop.
