Frequently asked questions

What is ROI?

ROI (Return on Investment) is your net profit as a percentage of what you put in. An ROI of 50% means you earned half your investment back as profit; a negative ROI means a loss.

What’s the difference between ROI and annualised return?

ROI is the total return over the whole holding period. Annualised return (CAGR) converts that into an equivalent per-year rate, so a 50% gain over 5 years (≈8.4%/yr) can be compared fairly with a 20% gain over 1 year.

Do I have to enter a time period?

No. ROI and net profit are calculated without it. The period is only used for the annualised (CAGR) figure — leave it at zero to skip that.

Can it show a loss?

Yes. If the amount returned is less than the amount invested, the ROI is negative and the result clearly shows a net loss.

How do I calculate ROI on an investment?

Enter the amount you invested and the amount you got back, and this ROI calculator shows your return on investment using ROI = (returned − invested) ÷ invested × 100. For example, ₹1,00,000 that grows to ₹1,50,000 is a 50% ROI with a ₹50,000 net profit.

Can I use this to calculate marketing or business ROI?

Yes. The ROI calculator works for anything with a clear money-in and money-out — stocks, mutual funds, real estate, marketing spend or any business investment. Add the holding period to also see the annualised (CAGR) return for a fair comparison.

Is my data sent anywhere?
