Frequently asked questions
What is GST?
GST (Goods & Services Tax) is India’s single indirect tax on the supply of goods and services. Common slabs are 0%, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% (plus 3% for gold).
What’s the difference between ‘Add’ and ‘Remove’ GST?
‘Add GST’ treats your amount as the price before tax and adds GST on top. ‘Remove GST’ treats your amount as already including GST and works out the original pre-tax price.
CGST, SGST and IGST — what are they?
For a sale within the same state, GST is split equally into CGST (to the centre) and SGST (to the state). For a sale between states, the whole amount is charged as IGST.
How is GST removed from an inclusive price?
Net = inclusive amount × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). For example, ₹118 at 18% gives a net of ₹100 and ₹18 GST.
How do I calculate GST on an amount?
Enter the amount and pick a GST slab (5%, 12%, 18% or 28%) or a custom rate. In ‘Add GST’ mode the calculator computes GST = amount × rate ÷ 100 and shows the gross total; in ‘Remove GST’ mode it extracts the GST already included in the price.
How do I calculate 18% GST on ₹10,000?
At 18% GST, ₹10,000 attracts ₹1,800 GST, for a gross total of ₹11,800. For an intra-state sale this splits into ₹900 CGST and ₹900 SGST; for an inter-state sale it’s ₹1,800 IGST. Change the amount or rate to calculate GST for any value instantly.
